One Decision. The Beginning of the End…One Year Ago
On May 22, 2016 by Michelle LoveOne year ago today, BJ had a normal monthly chemo infusion visit to Levine Pediatric Hematology Oncology clinic. On the way there, we talked about how exciting it was to be down to single digit clinic visits until the marked end of treatment (1/4/2016). It had been a long road and we were finally beginning Read More

On January 27, 2016 by Michelle LoveTuesday, January 26, 2016…68 days in the hospital I hope the blinatumomab is kicking leukemia’s butt as hard as it’s kicking BJ’s. Over the past few days, he has had fevers, feels achy all over, having joint pain, and just feels bad. He is on a liter of oxygen, and has had several blood and Read More

On January 12, 2016 by Michelle LoveMonday, January 11, 2016…53 days in the hospital BJ has had another good day yesterday and today. He has been up, and walking, the same distance as Saturday, but no stopping to rest in the middle. He is really pushing himself with physical therapy and stretching to make walking less painful. He even had a Read More

On December 31, 2015 by Michelle LoveWednesday, December 30, 2015…41 days in the hospital It was a pretty quiet day for BJ. Fast change in the cancer world
On September 14, 2015 by Michelle LoveThings change so fast when you’re dealing with cancer. Dr. Kaplan talked to BJ and I about “options” two weeks ago. There are two new therapies that would be possible options for BJ if they couldn’t get him to MRD negative. One was Blinatumomab (just received FDA approval Dec. 2014), which has been successful in Read More
Zero white blood cells and more platelets
On August 3, 2015 by Michelle LoveThe Ara-C from the last 2 weeks has done exactly what they expected it to do. Lab work from this morning showed that BJ’s white blood cell count is zero. For the next 3 weeks or so, we’ll be hypersensitive in checking for fevers and making sure he doesn’t get sick. He has no working Read More

Deja vu
On July 31, 2015 by Michelle LoveBack at LCH for the same regimen as last week. He’s currently getting his 2nd 3-hour dose. Thankfully, BJ wasn’t as nauseated as last week, but he has already developed the Ara-C rash again. Hopefully this chemo will make a difference in his MRD. The week-long daily chemo (cytoxan and etoposide) he had a month Read More
He doesn’t realize how tough he is
On July 28, 2015 by Michelle LoveBJ had a rough weekend. Every few hours, day and night, he needed eye drops, Zofran or Atarax. He finally felt like eating something Sunday afternoon, but that was curbed by nausea. This morning, he still felt very weak, and standing for short period of time was exhausting for him. At the clinic today, he Read More
