The Loudness of the Night… September 15, 2015
On September 15, 2015 by Michelle LoveI really should be asleep but it’s nighttime.. and it’s quiet.. and this is when I hear all of thoughts in my head the loudest. This is when I feel the magnitude of the aching in my heart. The past 2 days have been exciting and scary and overwhelming and everything in between…and I’m just…exhausted Read More
Pheresis of White Blood Cells
On September 15, 2015 by Michelle LoveThe pheresis just finished. BJ did great as always, even though they had a little trouble getting into his veins this morning. It was 16 gauge needles…very big. It hurt, but he breathed through it and stared into my eyes like he usually does when he’s nervous about something. It has taken 4 hours to Read More
Future Navy SEAL
On September 15, 2015 by Michelle LoveThis was super cool… A former Navy Seal sent BJ a package containing a Frogman tshirt, a challenge coin, a seal patch, and a Trident that he wore in battle. BJ was truly speechless. He wrote a note to BJ, and said when he gets his own Trident one day, he would take his back. He also said Read More
Fast change in the cancer world
On September 14, 2015 by Michelle LoveThings change so fast when you’re dealing with cancer. Dr. Kaplan talked to BJ and I about “options” two weeks ago. There are two new therapies that would be possible options for BJ if they couldn’t get him to MRD negative. One was Blinatumomab (just received FDA approval Dec. 2014), which has been successful in Read More
From a Mom’s Perspective
On September 7, 2015 by Michelle LoveI’m not usually the one to jump on facebook to complain about things, or say how bad I’m feeling, or how I’m on the edge of whatever… BUT. This is September. This is Childhood Cancer Awareness month. This is also Leukemia Awareness month, and it is also THE month 3 years ago that my normally healthy child was diagnosed Read More
What is it they say? The best-laid plans…often go awry
On September 7, 2015 by Michelle LoveBJ would’ve still been in the hospital if things had worked out as planned. Thursday we went to the clinic to get his blood drawn for labs and then over to the hospital for a spinal tap with intrathecal Ara-C and a bone marrow aspiration. As usual, BJ fights the sedative and the sedative always Read More

On August 26, 2015 by Michelle LoveWith no fever since 0700 Tuesday and no oxygen required since 1700, and even without knowing exactly what type of fungus/mold caused his lung infection, BJ was DISCHARGED TODAY!!!! He will continue to take the antifungal medication which is obviously working, and go in for an exam Friday just to make sure he’s still progressing. Read More
August 25, 2015 First Day of School
On August 25, 2015 by Michelle LoveBJ has been s-l-o-w-l-y getting better! It’s hard to see much improvement from day to day, but he is definitely much better than a few days ago. His hemoglobin was low this morning, so he received a blood transfusion today. His other counts (platelets, white blood cells, ANC) have recovered, so now we’re just waiting Read More
Torn
On August 24, 2015 by Michelle LoveCarly’s first day of 5th grade at a new school because of rezoning. She had a great first day and made a new friend! This should have been BJ’s first day at high school. Instead, he’s still in the hospital where he’s spent most of his summer. I am at both ends of the emotional Read More
Fungal Infection complicates things
On August 22, 2015 by Michelle LoveThe past few days have been very rough for BJ. Without a fever for a week, we were wanting to go home so bad, but his blood counts had to show improvement. That never happened. He spiked a fever very early this past Tuesday morning, and was in extreme pain in his right side, which Read More
