Football Jersey Retirement
On February 2, 2019 by Michelle LoveThank you to everyone who made last night so special. Thank you to NLHS and Mitch Sherrill for pulling this together and making a beautiful display. It was the perfect night to have the hanging presentation – as BJ’s friends were on both sides of the gym. Thank you to Rose Barrick for speaking, and to Matthew Parks, Hunter Sharpe, Wyatt Painter and Jacob Harmon for helping her add to her speech with some of your fondest memories of your friend.
“….One memory that stood out was that no matter where BJ was in the world, he made it his own. Whether he was in Wal-Mart on a Saturday wildly being pushed by Matthew in a shopping cart, or in a hospital hallway tethered to an IV pole, he made it special. He could make the worst of places into something special, to the point that you forgot where you were or why you were there.
The hanging of his jersey will remind those in the class of 2019 and those that follow to always have this mindset. Make the world your own and show your true Warrior spirit. By doing this you can do nothing but succeed in your future. Along the way, remember the boy who battled to the end, never letting adversity take hold of his spirit. Instead he turned adversity around and used it to make him stronger in everything he did.”
