Two days at home

On February 23, 2016 by Michelle Love

Monday, February 22, 2016
It’s taken a couple of days to transition back to being comfortable at home. BJ wanted to sleep in his own bed instead of having a hospital bed in the house. That comes with pros and cons, and he has had to get used to moving a little more (which is a good thing) to get into a different position. There was also a ‘withdrawal’ for me with him being off of a monitor. As much as we hated all the beeping, it’s amazing how much of a security blanket that monitor had become. The first night we were home, I checked his pulse and O2 sats every couple hours. Everything was good through the night and he slept better than he has in a while. He slept even better Sunday night.
Monday, BJ had to go to the Levine Pediatric Hematology Oncology clinic for labs. His platelet count was 3k, so he received a 2-unit platelet transfusion. It was challenging and painful for BJ to transfer into the wheelchair from his bed, and then from the wheelchair to the car. The lab work and transfusion went well, and his port needle was also replaced (which is done each week).
BJ’s spirits are down. Hopefully in a couple more days, he will get used to being at home again, as we will help him find new joy each day. That is what we strive for, but we’re human and we break down quite often. We aren’t losing faith by any means, and we aren’t turning our back on God because our request of a miracle hasn’t happened yet. We continue to place our hope in the hands of the mighty physician who absolutely can heal BJ at any time.
Thank you all for your prayers, cries out to God for BJ, your outpouring of love and support. It means so much to us. We love to read the notes of how BJ has changed your life in some way. That is very uplifting to him. He knows that there is purpose in his suffering, and he has always said that if his life can point people to Jesus Christ, then it’s all worth it. He is truly a warrior of God. He is the storm.
