75 days inpatient – Thursday, February 4, 2016

BJ has been extremely exhausted. That’s what this treatment does, so it’s expected. He definitely isn’t having the horrible side effects that this treatment is known to cause. Over the past couple weeks, his bilirubin has gone up and come back down. The concern was that it was high and that the stent in his bile duct was possibly blocked. But his ultrasound looked unchanged from the one just after the stent was placed. The GI doc even came to talk to us about going back for another ERCP to replace his stent with a larger one. BJ was not in agreement with that idea, neither was I. His medical team agreed, and decided to just watch his bilirubin levels for now. Miraculously, and after much prayer, his bilirubin started going back down to normal levels. The medical team said they didn’t really have an explanation for the decrease. We just smile, because that’s a simple answer really…it’s God. When we step back and look at where we’ve been and where we are, we absolutely see God’s work here. Even some of the medical team is agreeing that something else is at work here. BJ’s response to that? He prayed that people would see God through this fight, and he is happy that his prayers are being answered. BJ’s mental strength and steadfast faith in God continue even through his profound physical weakness and this tiring monumental fight.
As far as his blood counts go, his white blood cell count is still less than 0.1 (expected); with 2 units of platelets yesterday, his count today was 32k (awesome for him!); with 2 units of blood on Tuesday, his hemoglobin was above 10 today (good!). His electrolytes were a little off, but since he’s back on IV nutrition again, they can add what’s needed to his bag of TPN.
We’re still praying for the total elimination of nausea, the increase of appetite, with resulting weight gain and muscle strength, no more pain, no more swelling, no more obstacles to his complete healing. And more importantly, we are thanking God for the good work that he has began in BJ. We are praising God for all our blessings.
