Time out for a Panthers Pep Rally – Friday, January 15, 2016

We are witnessing God’s work every day. BJ had a CT scan this morning to see what his lungs look like now. Ten days ago, the CT scan showed devastating news. Today, the pleural effusion is almost gone in his lungs, and the 5cm mass in his chest is now very small. With this news, the medical team is now ready to start a new therapy.
On Monday, BJ will have a bone marrow aspiration so that there will be a baseline of how much leukemia is in his marrow. He will also have a double lumen PICC line put into his arm, so that there will be additional IV access.
Scheduled for Wednesday is the immunotherapy called blinatumomab. He will go to the PICU here to be monitored for the first few days while he starts the 28 day continuous infusion. Blinatumomab can cause some of the same side effects as the CART therapy…capillary leak, high fever, flu-like symptoms, and neurological issues (hallucinations, delirium, mental fog, seizures, encephalopathy). This treatment is a stepping stone to bone marrow transplant.

Today there was a pep rally in the lobby of the hospital for the Panthers v. Seahawks game on Sunday. BJ was able to go down and participate in the video.
Thank you so much for your fervent prayers for BJ’s healing. Specific prayer request is for his bone marrow to be free of leukemia cells, for him to be protected from any side effects from the blinatumomab, and for all of the leukemia cells in his body to be destroyed once and for all.
