Childhood Cancer
Beautiful Carly
On October 8, 2015 by Michelle LoveMy beautiful 10 year old daughter, with her heart of pure gold, generous to a fault, kind to all, with a desire to “do something” to make a difference in someone’s life… When BJ was diagnosed with leukemia 3 years ago, Carly was just 7 years old. She really wanted to do something to help in a big way. There was never anything she thought she could do, but she kept looking. Two years later, my heart sister was diagnosed with breast cancer. After her surgery last year, she was given a small pillow that someone made for patients to take home. When placed under her arm, it helped relieve the pressure from her surgery site. She showed it to Carly, and Carly immediately said “I can do that!”
…and so she did.
She used her own money from selling her handmade crocheted scarves to buy the fabric and stuffing. She actually learned how to sew while she was making these pillows. She finished the 68th pillow last night. They will be donated to the Cancer Resource Center (CRC) at Levine Cancer Institute and also to Novant Health Presbyterian Medical Center’s Breast Center in Charlotte.
